how exactly does it work?
Stack = power (kW)
The stack, which provides the power (expressed in kW), works in a similar way to a hydrogen fuel cell. A membrane allows hydrogen ions to move from one tank to another. These hydrogen ions can pass through the membrane, but in the process they either give up an electron or take up an electron. To do this, the hydrogen ions require energy (recharge) or release energy (discharge).
Electrolyte = capacity (kWh)
The electrolyte, which represents the capacity (expressed in kWh), consists of vanadium oxide (V₂O₅) dissolved in a liquid acid. This acid, combined with the vanadium oxide, acts as a medium to store electrical energy. The tanks in which the electrolyte is stored are completely independent of the stack in terms of size. This allows unique ratios between capacity and power to be achieved.
Pumps
Pumps allow the electrolyte to flow from both the positive and negative tanks to the stack and back again.
BMS
Stands for Battery Management System.
This high-tech component of the ES Flow battery ensures that the battery is charged and discharged as efficiently as possible. Through the BMS, users can monitor the status of the battery. The BMS is also a protection mechanism that prevents overcharging or under discharging of the battery.
